Zalkin and P.E. Labellers work together on an integrated capping and labeling system to provide the best solution for Cardinal Health.
Cardinal Health distributes pharmaceuticals, manufactures, and distributes medical and laboratory products, and provide data solutions for healthcare facilities.
Cardinal Health makes their specimen jars in their Mexico facility and was looking for a way to cap a 56mm cap and label their 2 oz. and 4 oz. jars in an efficient yet simple process. This led them to Zalkin and P.E. Labellers.
“We decided to go with Zalkin because of the technology that Zalkin is using. We did a market study, and it turns out that Zalkin has the latest technology for capping,” said Oscar Roberto Aguirre, Maintenance Supervisor of Molding for Cardinal Health.
Zalkin and P.E. Labellers are both ProMach brands, which allowed them to work seamlessly together to best assist the customer.
“One of the benefits of these two normally, different entities of a capping machine company and a labeling company working together is that with a common ownership of ProMach, they’re under one common corporate umbrella,” said Andy Monroe, Vice President of Business Development for Zalkin. “Which encourages and fosters cooperative relationships between those entities to where one company can facilitate commercial supply and integration of the other companies’ technology.”
They were looking for a completed system that could provide a sealed label and closure to their jars and with the help of P.E. Labellers, Zalkin was able to provide a solution for them.
The system has many different technologies which include a bottle unscrambler, a CAS-3/360 capping machine with both inspection and rejection systems, and a Modular CM 576 Series labeling machine.
Zalkin working with P.E. Labellers allowed for Cardinal Health to receive a complete system for their plant in Tijuana, Mexico.
With their plant being based in Mexico, it was essential to terminate any possible language barriers. With Zalkin, that was possible.
“Not only did Cardinal Health work with a Spanish speaking salesman, but they also had a native Spanish speaking project manager and electrical engineer working on their project,” said Monroe.
Zalkin and P.E. Labellers collaborated to host the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) at the Zalkin facility in Statham, GA. Where the Cardinal Health team tested both the capper and labeler in one visit before setting it up in their shop.
“The FAT has been a very lovely experience so far and the Zalkin team has been treating us well,” said Aguirre.
Customers being able to test equipment is an important and efficient part of the process. “Testing the equipment is super important because we were able to see all of the possible issues we could have had, and we were able to fix them before it is onsite,” said Aguirre.
Having a thorough and robust FAT allows the customer to have a vertical start-up once the equipment arrives at their facility.
Aguirre expressed his satisfaction at the end of the FAT. “I’m feeling satisfied and the management at Cardinal Health will be very happy once this project is finished,” said Aguirre.
